Danny Arensberg - Aftermath of the shooting of Marimar Martinez

On October 4, 2025, in the Brighton Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, U.S. citizen Marimar Martinez, 30, was following a Customs and Border Patrol vehicle warning neighbors of their presence when their cars collided. After colliding, Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Charles Exum fired five rounds into her vehicle. Martinez sustained seven bullet wounds in total in her arms and legs but survived. The shooting came amid Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Operation Midway Blitz, which focuses on apprehending undocumented immigrants in Chicago. Community members and activists gathered at the site of the shooting to confront the agents and were dispersed with tear gas.
