On Sunday, July 10, 2023 heavy rain turned into severe flash flooding for the town of Highland Falls in New York State. The town of Highland Falls is situated at the entrance of the United States Military Academy West Point. Many unsuspecting residents were caught in the dangerous flooding that day which caused extensive physical damage to roads and buildings compared to the surrounding towns in Hudson Valley. In the days following during the recovery process many local residents felt there was not an adequate enough response on the State and Federal level in regards to aid. The American Red Cross and several aid organizations such as the Samaritan's Purse assisted in the clean up the following weeks.
