Go Skateboarding Day originally started from the All Star City Skate Jam hosted by Kerel Roach and Bryan Chin in 2002 in New York City, then in 2004 it was renamed to Go Skate Day and adopted by the International Association of Skateboarding Companies and following 2004, the annual event has been used to promote more people to be involved in the community of skateboarding not just in NYC but also worldwide. On June 21, 2023, Go Skateboarding Day started with trick contests at the Brooklyn Banks 9 stair set and ended at the LES Coleman Skatepark.

Steve Rodriguez, the organizer of this years Go Skate Day in NYC hands cash to a skateboarding contestant who landed a trick down the nine stairs at the newly opened Brooklyn Bridge Banks park which has still partially been closed since around 2010. Steve has been the main advocate for the reopening of the full park which is a historic spot in NYC skateboarding history. Steve is working with the Tony Hawk Skatepark Project and non-profit Brooklyn Bridge Manhattan to reopen the legendary spot and a new envisioned public park.
